This is a small, curated collection of material that has helped me maintain balance & sanity as I work to hit my own ever-higher bar, or “push the boulder uphill” as a friend of mine used to describe the occasional feeling of Transformation & Org Change work. Something to work most of the senses, which some say is key to staying centered. Take what works, leave the rest.
Read: An oldie but goodie from The New York Times (if you’re not a subscriber, this is a gift and it should work), on a topic I’ve found tricky as a theater kid who left the stage but never stopped acting: being authentic.
Listen: “Don’t Sweat It” Playlist. I made this for a recent yoga class I taught. I wanted something light, fun, and a little dancy, because I felt a surge of imposter syndrome and needed to chill the heck out. The playlist was a big hit! Maybe more than the yoga.
Try: Jeff Warren’s “Mindfulness for Beginners” Series, from the Calm app. I really like Jeff’s facilitation. He sounds like someone I want to have coffee with. If you’ve tried Meditation before and it hasn’t stuck, give this a go.
Cook: Maple & Miso Sheet Pan Salmon with Green Beans. 20 minutes. Honest. And you likely have most of the non-perishable ingredients already. Maybe not miso– but why don’t you have miso? It’s good on so many things! This quickly became a staple in my house. Sometimes I swap brussels for the beans, but beans are better. Also from The New York Times, and a gift/should work if you’re not a subscriber.
Laugh: Someone sent me this skit the other day, which I’d somehow missed. This may not have the desired effect (you, laughing) if you don’t know anything at all about Pilates, but it’s generally ridiculous enough that it might. Also, I need new material. Please send me what’s making you laugh these days.
